Are internships paid? Why are internships unpaid?

Most of the internships are unpaid. Our program aims to provide students valuable global experiences full of learning opportunities for students to build impressive resumes and exclusive working skills, which are worth much more than the payment.

When can I apply? Are starting and ending date flexible?

You can apply for an internship anytime you want. Most of the positions are open year-round. Usually the internships will last for 1-3 months, however the starting dates and durations are flexible depending on your personal schedule.

Which countries can I apply to?

Basically, you can apply for the companies from any country that we are cooperating with. For detailed information, please see destination cities.

What can I expect from this program?

Living and working abroad after college will provide you with an exclusive life experience and valuable skills that would benefit you as a lifelong fortune. In a nutshell, you could gain basic working skills, accumulate global work experience, understand global economy, and get a first hand view of the business atmosphere of a whole new place.
Sometimes going to a new country can be tough, you might even experience culture shock, but that is exactly why global internship experiences are more exciting and much valuable than regular internships. In a global internship, you will learn how to embrace a new culture, shape your personality and become more confident and independent, which you may not learn from an environment that you are familiar with. You will also adapt to new friends and a new language, which would expand your professional network and make your resume more impressive than others. After this program, you will be able to become more open to new things and become more comfortable with new surroundings.

How do you define whether a company is qualified or not?

We choose companies that have a good reputation in their industries and could provide students with valuable learning opportunities. There would be no serving coffee or picking up dry-cleaning in your internship. You would work closely with your supervisor and be a part of a team, from which you will learn how to fit in the working environment and enhance your working skills.

Can I apply if my study field is not listed?

Unfortunately, we cannot help you apply for any other internships opportunities that are not listed.

Is there any financial support?

There will not be financial support for your internship, students needs to pay for their personal expenses on their own.

Can I earn academic credit?

Because companies have different policies, we suggest you to talk with your academic advisor and find out what is the policy of your university, then we will help you communicate with companies to see whether you can earn academic credit.

I am a high-school student. Can I apply? Is there any age limit to apply for your program?

Our program has an age limit that students have to be at least 18 years old. As long as you are not under 18, you can apply to our program.

I’m not a student (or recent graduate) in school. Can I apply?

As long as you are over the age of 18, you can apply, academic institution or not.

What is included in the program fee?

The program fee includes Internship placement, pre-departure preparation and local assistance. Housing is also included, however it is removable if students choose to live off-campus. For more information, please see payment.

Where is the housing? How do you guarantee the safety? Can I decide where I live?

We cooperate with local universities, which provide students safety-guaranteed dorms or apartments to live in. Students can also find their own place, and we are available to provide assistance whenever students need our help.

What if I have emergency situations?

We provide reliable medical services that students can reach 24/7. We will also give instructions and tips to students about local environment before departure, in order to make sure students’ safety and health are well taken care of over the course of their internship.

Will my host employer offer me a job?

Our internship program does not include the guarantee of offering a job, what we provide to students is an internship opportunity, with a length agreed by both employees and students. There might be exceptions after the internship has ended, however we can make no guarantees.

Is the application process competitive? How are we chosen?

We choose candidates that meet the requirements of employment. Whether you are chosen or not depends on your qualifications. If you worried that your resume does not stand out enough or cannot highlight your qualifications, we would like to assist you in identifying your personal and professional strong points, and help you refine your resume and cover letter.

Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to participate in this program?

GIPEP welcomes students from all over the world. No matter where you are from, as long as you are over the age of 18 and are interested in having a global internship experience, you can come to us.

What if something happened before the program started and I cannot go to this program, will I get my money back?

Unfortunately, once students successfully receive the offer, fees are un-refundable.

If I failed to apply for an internship, can I get my money back?

With GIPEP, you will not be failed to apply for an internship.

Do I need to speak local language?

Knowledge of local languages definitely makes you more competitive, but it is not necessary as long as you are fluent in English.
